The SHIELD team is excited to see share this NASA article highlighting a recent review paper published by SHIELD Director, Merav Opher. The paper, ‘Understanding the Heliospheric Shield: Laying the Groundwork to Predict Habitable Astrospheres’, has been recently published in the journal ANNUAL REVIEW OF ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS . It “reviews today’s open issues, frontiers of research, and advances in our understanding of the heliosphere throughout the Sun’s last 10 million years” and draws upon significant advances in our understanding of the heliosphere made by the SHIELD NASA DRIVE Science Center funded by NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The paper concludes that an understanding of the heliosphere’s response to the varying interstellar environment it passes through can inform both our understanding of the ancient climate of the Earth and the habitability of exoplanets as their stars travel through the Galaxy. #NASA #heliosphere #spacescience #habitaility
